WASHINGTON — The redesigned 2016 Chevrolet Cruze sedan has not yet made its official debut, but car shoppers already have some critical safety information about the car, courtesy of the federal government.
The redesigned 2016 Cruze sedan earned the top five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, according to a posting on the NHTSA Web site.
The 2016 Cruze earned five stars in the front and side crash tests and four stars in the rollover crash test.
The 2015 Chevrolet Cruze received the same rating from NHTSA.
Chevrolet has not disclosed any official information yet about the Cruze, which is expected to arrive at Chevrolet dealerships next spring.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not rated the 2016 Cruze.
Recent spy photos show the redesigned 2016 Cruze shares front and rear styling cues with the also-redesigned 2016 Chevrolet Malibu and 2016 Chevrolet Volt. A variation of the next-generation Cruze to be sold in China was also unveiled at the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show
The Cruze's key competitors, the Ford Focus, Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla, have also received top five-star ratings from NHTSA.
Edmunds says: We don't know much about the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze, but top crash scores are a pretty good place to start.
