LINCOLN, Alabama — Production of the redesigned 2016 Honda Pilot, a three-row midsize SUV, began on Thursday at Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, ahead of a showroom debut at Honda dealerships in June.

The Pilot is designed, developed and manufactured in America.

Key competitors to the Pilot include the Chevrolet Traverse, Ford Explorer and Nissan Pathfinder.

Pricing on the Pilot was announced on Wednesday. The base 2016 Pilot starts at $30,875, including an $880 destination charge.

The fully loaded new 2016 Pilot Elite with a navigation and rear-entertainment system and all-wheel drive is priced at $47,300, including shipping. It is now the most expensive Honda sold in America.

The all-new, third-generation Pilot does away with the upright, blocky profile of its predecessors and bears more of a family resemblance with the best-selling Honda CR-V.

Edmunds says: The 2016 Pilot gets another step closer to your driveway. It's time to make your shopping plans now.

Lego Caterham Super Seven needs your help to reach production

Several hundred votes needed for fan-made prototype to advance to Lego review

Gearheads from around the world are familiar with Colin Chapman's original Lotus Seven, a bare-bones two seater that symbolized the Lotus company philosophy of adding lightness via subtracting unneeded parts. The Lotus Seven embarked on a serious diet, with the result being a distillation of everything that makes top-down motoring fun.

The original Lotus was produced from 1957 till 1972, when Caterham took over production, selling the Seven in kit form as the Caterham Super Seven. But Caterham was not the only company to offer the Seven in kit -- there were upwards of 160 companies that offered their own take on the Seven, with varying degrees of likeness to the original -- and varying degrees of quality.

This classic British roadster is a rare sight in the States whether as an original Lotus or a Caterham, but if all goes well the Seven could become one of the few Lego scale models of actual cars. And yes, it'll once again be offered as a kit, but one that you'll be able to put together in a couple hours at the most, without the use of any tools.

Lego builder Carl Greatrix has created a Caterham Seven that's now barrelling towards the requisite 10,000 votes required for a fan-made Lego set to advance to the official review phase by the toymaker (with the final phase being production). The model features a realistic engine under a removable hood, turning wheels, and tiny details like springs in the suspension.

With just over a thousand extra votes needed and more than 574 days to go, the Caterham Super Seven is virtually assured to make it to the next stage where Lego will evaluate this set for feasability and demand.

"If a project gets 10,000 votes it enters the Lego review phase. Then, our review board evaluates and selects which project will become the next Lego Ideas product. Members whose projects are selected are recognized for inspiring the Lego Ideas set,"  the Lego Ideas guide says.

Even though most of this set is made up of common Lego pieces, not all pieces are in production at any given time -- something that Lego's in-house set designers have to contend with on a daily basis. So while building something like a completely new Castle or City System set at home using pieces from the last 30 years may seem easy, only a limited number of Castle or City pieces are in actual production at any one given time, which is one of the controlling factors when it comes to production decisions.

The Caterham Seven is not the sole build by Greatrix -- his AV-8B Harrier and F4 Phantom made from Legos simply have to be seen to be believed.
