2016 Chevrolet Camaro Tantalizes Tuners, SEMA Plans Already in the Works | Edmunds.com

DETROIT — The all-new 2016 Chevrolet Camaro coupe, which made its first public appearance last weekend, is already causing tuners and aftermarket parts specialists to sit up and take notice.

Sure, the new model's available 6.2-liter V8, with 455 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque - the most powerful Camaro SS ever - is enough to satisfy most enthusiasts. But as always, there are those with a thirst for more performance, and the aftermarket can be counted upon to meet that demand.

John Hennessey, president of internationally known tuning firm Hennessey Performance Engineering, told Edmunds he's excited about the new Camaro being lighter and presumably more nimble than the previous version, making it an excellent candidate for performance upgrades.

"Since the fifth-generation Camaro came out, we've modified more than 5,000 of these cars," Hennessey said. "It's been a beautiful car to work with. For the sixth-generation model, we plan to have performance packages available within 60 days of the release in the fall."

Eric Blakely, a spokesman for longtime performance parts manufacturer Edelbrock LLC, told Edmunds that his firm has been keeping a close eye on 2016 Camaro news and noted it plans to develop an E-Force Supercharger system for the new model.

"We do not have a set date for release at this time, since we will need to acquire a car to begin our development," Blakely said, but noted that Edelbrock's performance upgrades will be "similar in design to our current LS- and LT1-based systems, with similar power gains and performance."

According to the Edelbrock Web site, the company's Stage 3 professional tuner kit can take the small-block V8 engine used in the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette beyond 700 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque. So, presumably, the same 6.2-liter LT1, available in the 2016 Camaro SS, can be massaged to a comparable level.

Tom Henry of Tom Henry Chevrolet in Bakerstown, Pennsylvania, told Edmunds that his performance division, Tom Henry Racing, has been offering performance upgrades for the fifth-generation Camaro.

"We have our own branded exhaust system, and we install engine modifications like superchargers," Henry said. "I'm eager to get my hands on one of the new V8 models so we can start work on it. One of the things that helps us beat Mustang is that great Chevy engine architecture. There's a lot you can do with it."

However, since none of the aftermarket and tuner specialists have had a chance to get a close look at the new model yet, it may be a while before you see a 700-hp 2016 Camaro doing a burn out down a road near you.

"It’s too early for us to talk about tuners or aftermarket projects," Chevrolet Spokesman Monte Doran told Edmunds. Nevertheless, he added, "I would expect Camaro will have a fairly significant presence at SEMA this year."

The annual Specialty Equipment Market Association show, scheduled for November 3-6 this year in Las Vegas, is the largest automotive aftermarket trade event in the world, with more than 2,000 exhibitors filling in excess of 1 million square feet of space.

While it is not open to the public, it provides lots of inspiration beyond the showroom.

"Since the Camaro’s inception, there have been thousands of products developed to enhance the vehicle’s styling and performance, and we’ve already received a great deal of interest from our members for the all-new 2016 Camaro," said Mike Spagnola, SEMA's vice president of OEM and product development programs. "We’re currently working with Chevrolet to give our members access to this vehicle in advance of its release and anticipate that the 2016 Camaro will have a strong presence at the 2015 SEMA Show in November."

So, it's a safe bet that Hennessey, Edelbrock and many other tuners and aftermarket parts specialists will bring their A-game to SEMA this year with a tasty selection of performance options for the 2016 Camaro.

Edmunds says: As if an all-new Camaro wasn't enough, we're looking forward to seeing what the aftermarket has in store for one of the most eagerly anticipated cars of 2016.

2016 Chevrolet Camaro Already a Social Media Darling | Edmunds.com

View Full Screen ADVERTISEMENT

DETROIT — The all-new, sixth-generation 2016 Chevrolet Camaro coupe has captured abundant social media attention after a splashy debut Saturday.

Even before the new Camaro's debut at Detroit's Belle Isle Park, there was plenty of online buzz about it among fans, current owners and Chevrolet itself. After all, it had been more than five years since a completely new version of Chevy's iconic muscle car hit the streets. Nevertheless, its popularity was quickly evident within hours of its big debut as tweets, "likes" and Instragrams starting piling up.

"The Camaro reveal is currently trending on Facebook," Craig Daitch, Chevy's social media lead, told Edmunds.

A quick check of the Chevrolet, Chevrolet Camaro, CamaroSix and #CamaroSix Reveal Facebook pages showed dozens of posts, hundreds of comments and tens of thousands of views and "likes," as well as thousands of "shares" by fans. And that doesn't include countless posts by enthusiasts on their own pages and posts by Chevrolet dealers, parts suppliers and tuners.

Comments ranged from "Wow!" and "Sweet ride!" to "Thank you Chevrolet for keeping it stylish." The vast majority of comments were similarly positive, but as with any redesign there were bound to be a few naysayers, such as the one who wrote: "They went from retro style to futuristic style. Honestly, I like the '14/15 better."

Over on Twitter, the Edmunds feed included a number of posts featuring the latest photos of the new Camaro. Very quickly, retweets numbered in the hundreds. And a search of #CamaroSix turned up thousands more, including hundreds of retweets on Chevrolet's own feed.

It's the same on Instagram, where searches of "CamaroSix" and "Camaro6" found hundreds of photos, hundreds of comments and thousands of "likes." Enthusiast remarks included "I love everything about the new gen," "So awesome" and "Get it for me!"

Of course, brand loyalty was bound to be a factor. Sniped one fan of the newly redesigned 2015 Ford Mustang, the Camaro's long-time competitor: "Ford won again."

So, does this social media activity constitute major trending for the 2016 Camaro?

Well, maybe not yet. Trending topics on Twitter -- many related to A-list celebrities and megahit movies -- run into the tens of millions of posts. On Facebook, comments on a single post have run into the millions, and "likes" have soared into the tens of millions.

But with the debut of the Generation Six Camaro barely in the rearview mirror, it's still early. And if the social media activity thus far is any indication, the new Camaro may be kicking off a sales trend in Chevrolet dealerships this fall.

Edmunds says: Early social media buzz bodes well for the 2016 Camaro.

Mexican Formula One race already sold out

Race sells out within hours

The Mexican Grand Prix is already sold out. While other races -- even key markets like Germany -- have struggled to fill the grandstands, it is reported that a full house will congregate at Mexico City's revamped Hermanos Rodriguez circuit in early November. Auto Motor und Sport reported that "within hours" of tickets going on sale recently, they were all sold. Tickets are reportedly now appearing on the black market for up to $12,000. Ferrari will be one beneficiary of Mexico's renewed F1 obsession, as local Esteban Gutierrez is the reserve driver. "I think that Esteban will be the star of the Mexican Grand Prix," team boss Maurizio Arrivabene said recently. "Maybe we can give him the chance to do a few laps on Friday." Another Mexican, Sergio Perez, races for Force India.

You wouldn't associate McLaren with doing things slowly, but we didn't anticipate how fast it would sell out of the 675LT.

The British racing team turned exotic automaker revealed the 675LT as a longer, more hardcore version of the 650S at the Geneva Motor Show this past March. At the time it announced that only 500 examples would be made. Now just two months later, McLaren spokesman Wayne Bruce confirmed to Autoblog that the entire production run has already sold out.

"Around half the buyers" who placed their orders for the 675LT, Bruce tells us, "are new to the brand." The other half, by extension, are existing McLaren customers who already own (or have owned) a 12C, 650S or P1.

The 675LT sits in the company's new Super Series alongside the aforementioned 650S and the more accessible Asian-market 625C. With 666 horsepower on tap from McLaren's signature 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8, the Longtail will rocket to 62 in under three seconds en route to a top speed of 205 miles per hour.

It comes exclusively in fixed-roof-coupe form and retails for £259,500. That's equivalent to about $400,000 at current exchange rates, and comes out to about the same (in either currency) as what Lamborghini charges for an Aventador.
