2016 Honda Pilot Production Begins Ahead of Showroom Debut in June | Edmunds.com

LINCOLN, Alabama — Production of the redesigned 2016 Honda Pilot, a three-row midsize SUV, began on Thursday at Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, ahead of a showroom debut at Honda dealerships in June.

The Pilot is designed, developed and manufactured in America.

Key competitors to the Pilot include the Chevrolet Traverse, Ford Explorer and Nissan Pathfinder.

Pricing on the Pilot was announced on Wednesday. The base 2016 Pilot starts at $30,875, including an $880 destination charge.

The fully loaded new 2016 Pilot Elite with a navigation and rear-entertainment system and all-wheel drive is priced at $47,300, including shipping. It is now the most expensive Honda sold in America.

The all-new, third-generation Pilot does away with the upright, blocky profile of its predecessors and bears more of a family resemblance with the best-selling Honda CR-V.

Edmunds says: The 2016 Pilot gets another step closer to your driveway. It's time to make your shopping plans now.

ATLANTA — The 2016 Porsche Boxster and Porsche 911 Carrera Black Editions, monochromatic versions of the popular German sports cars, arrive at U.S. Porsche dealerships in late July, Porsche Cars North America announced Tuesday.

Porsche is following the growing trend to outfit vehicles in all-black appearance packages. Other examples include the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado Black Out Edition and 2015 Dodge Durango Blacktop Package.

The Porsche Black Editions feature standard black exterior paint and optional Jet Black Metallic paint.

Standard equipment is upgraded on both Black Editions with a Sport Design steering wheel, door-sill guards with a Black Edition logo, parking sensors, heated seats, auto-dimming rearview mirrors, and headrests with an embossed Porsche Crest.

The 911 Carrera Black Edition, which is available in coupe and convertible models, is based on the standard model with a 3.4-liter flat-6 engine that produces 350 horsepower.

Standard features on the Carrera Black Edition include 20-inch 911 Turbo wheels, adaptive LED headlights and a rearview camera. A standard Bose surround-sound system rounds out the package.

The 911 Carrera Black Edition starts at $89,795, including a $995 destination charge. The all-wheel-drive 911 Carrera 4 Black Edition is priced at $95,795, including shipping.

The 911 Carrera Cabriolet Black Edition convertible starts at $99,495, including shipping, while the top-of-the-line 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet Black Edition is priced at $105,595, including shipping.

The 2016 Porsche Boxster Black Edition is powered by the same 2.7-liter 265-hp flax-6 engine as the base Boxster. Aside from the aforementioned features shared with the 911 Black Edition, it adds to the base Boxster's equipment 20-inch Carrera Classic wheels, adaptive bi-xenon headlights, dual-zone climate control and the Porsche Communication Management system with navigation and an upgraded sound system. It is priced at $60,095, including a $995 destination charge.

Key Boxster rivals include the BMW Z4 and Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class.

The Porsche 911 takes on the Audi R8 and Chevrolet Corvette. The Jaguar F-Type competes with both.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers in many vehicle segments seem to love the all-black look. These new Porsche Black Editions are sure to be a showroom draw.

Speedback GT making its American debut at the Quail

David Brown Automotive throwback based on Jag XKR

The classic and modern-looking Speedback GT is officially launching in the United States at the Quail Motorsports Gathering this August. The bespoke GT from England’s David Brown Automotive will start at just $753,000.

The Speedback GT, which launched across the pond in March of last year, is built with Jaguar XKR underpinnings. It also features the Jag’s drivetrain, which means a supercharged 5.0-liter V8, six-speed ZF automatic, 501 hp and 461 lb-ft of torque. Top speed is 155 mph, 0-60 mph takes just 4.6 seconds.

The Speedback will appear in Carmel, Calif., initially at the Quail Rally Welcome Reception on Aug. 10, then will participate in the Rally on 11th and 12th before the main Quail event on 14th.

The Speedback GT's interior is a customized version of the Jaguar's interior.

“It’s been a fantastic year for Speedback GT since its launch,” said CEO David Brown. “Having had such a warm reception at a number of world-leading shows in Europe, it is a natural progression to bring the car to an American audience, where we’re sure there will be plenty of fans. We have already received a lot of inquiries asking when we would be bringing the car over, so we’re really excited to finally be making the journey across.”

Although the company shares the same name as a famous former owner of Aston Martin (and DBA’s first product looks more than a little like a classic Aston Martin DB), the two are unrelated.

Alan Mobberley, an ex Jaguar Land Rover employee, designed the GT, giving it the chrome grille, British curves and tailgate that flips down for sitting.

“Owners can use the tailgate as a seat to picnic off when they are out and about,” the company said.

Go to davidbrownautomotive.com for more information on the Speedback GT. Visit quaillodge.com for entrance into the Quail.

2016 Chevrolet Camaro Hits the Road Following Detroit Debut | Edmunds.com

View Full Screen ADVERTISEMENT

DETROIT — Camaro enthusiasts who get shut out of the May 16 public unveiling of the all-new 2016 Chevrolet Camaro coupe in Detroit will get plenty of chances to get close to the muscle car this summer.

A major road trip for the 2016 Camaro is planned after its debut on Detroit's Belle Isle.

The 2016 Camaro arrives at Chevrolet dealerships in late fall. Its first traditional auto show appearance will be in November at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Before that, the Camaro will make appearances at the Indianapolis 500 May 24-25, Major League Baseball's All-Star Game at Cincinnati's Great American Ball Park on July 14, Michigan's Woodward Dream Cruise on August 15 and Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion in California August 13-16.

"We're building a schedule right now," said Todd Christensen, Camaro marketing manager, in a phone conversation with Edmunds. "We're fighting over who gets to use them. You'll see a combination of some enthusiast events and some bigger events following the car's reveal."

The Camaro that will take center stage at those initial events is a red 2016 Camaro SS coupe, Christensen said.

The car returns to Belle Isle May 29-31 for the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix.

A large Chevrolet dealer event is planned in June.

"It will be the first time some of the dealers will see the Camaro," Christensen said.

Chevrolet will deploy a fleet of Camaros during the August 7-9 Camaro Fest, an enthusiast event at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

"We aim to bring a range of powertrains and trim levels so people can see the diversity," Christensen said.

A Camaro Reno, Nevada event is slated for August 6-8 during the Barrett-Jackson auction.

Also under consideration is auctioning off 2016 Camaro VIN No. 1, Christensen added.

There will also be a "pretty good presence at SEMA," he said, referring to the aftermarket equipment trade show that is not open to the public.

Car shoppers who have the 2016 Camaro on their lists will not be able to purchase the car during any of these events.

"No, we can't take orders," Christensen said. "It has to be done through the dealers."

It's clear that Christensen and the Camaro team can hardly wait to parade the 2016 Camaro before excited fans.

"As a car guy, it's a monumental moment," he said.

Key Camaro rivals include the Dodge Challenger, Ford Mustang and Nissan 370Z.

Edmunds says: It's time to mark your calendar to get up-close-and-personal with the 2016 Camaro.
