ATLANTA — The 2016 Porsche Boxster and Porsche 911 Carrera Black Editions, monochromatic versions of the popular German sports cars, arrive at U.S. Porsche dealerships in late July, Porsche Cars North America announced Tuesday.

Porsche is following the growing trend to outfit vehicles in all-black appearance packages. Other examples include the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado Black Out Edition and 2015 Dodge Durango Blacktop Package.

The Porsche Black Editions feature standard black exterior paint and optional Jet Black Metallic paint.

Standard equipment is upgraded on both Black Editions with a Sport Design steering wheel, door-sill guards with a Black Edition logo, parking sensors, heated seats, auto-dimming rearview mirrors, and headrests with an embossed Porsche Crest.

The 911 Carrera Black Edition, which is available in coupe and convertible models, is based on the standard model with a 3.4-liter flat-6 engine that produces 350 horsepower.

Standard features on the Carrera Black Edition include 20-inch 911 Turbo wheels, adaptive LED headlights and a rearview camera. A standard Bose surround-sound system rounds out the package.

The 911 Carrera Black Edition starts at $89,795, including a $995 destination charge. The all-wheel-drive 911 Carrera 4 Black Edition is priced at $95,795, including shipping.

The 911 Carrera Cabriolet Black Edition convertible starts at $99,495, including shipping, while the top-of-the-line 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet Black Edition is priced at $105,595, including shipping.

The 2016 Porsche Boxster Black Edition is powered by the same 2.7-liter 265-hp flax-6 engine as the base Boxster. Aside from the aforementioned features shared with the 911 Black Edition, it adds to the base Boxster's equipment 20-inch Carrera Classic wheels, adaptive bi-xenon headlights, dual-zone climate control and the Porsche Communication Management system with navigation and an upgraded sound system. It is priced at $60,095, including a $995 destination charge.

Key Boxster rivals include the BMW Z4 and Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class.

The Porsche 911 takes on the Audi R8 and Chevrolet Corvette. The Jaguar F-Type competes with both.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers in many vehicle segments seem to love the all-black look. These new Porsche Black Editions are sure to be a showroom draw.
