COLUMBIA, Tennessee — Columbia Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram is giving away a 2015 Dodge Dart to a high-school senior today in its Strive to Drive contest.
While only one lucky graduate will walk away with the car, the dealership has collected $10,000 in other prizes for additional winners.
Strive to Drive is a year-long promotion that encourages seniors from Maury County's seven public schools and two private ones to strive for good grades and perfect attendance.
Each quarter, seniors who make the honor roll or are without absences have their names put into a drum for a year-end drawing.
More than 400 students have now qualified for the drawing, Columbia Dealer Principal Eddie Collier told Edmunds.
There are two catches. The first is that the graduate must visit the dealership for the drawing where "American Idol" finalist Sarina-Joi Crowe will sing.
"If we draw their name and they're not there, they won't win," Collier explained.
The second catch is the winner must keep the Strive to Drive wrap on the Dart for 60 days.
Collier said the dealership has been driving the car to the participating schools to remind students about the contest.
"I hope we gave them incentive to work a little harder," he said.
Collier has received positive feedback from customers about the graduation gift.
"I did have at least one person come in and buy a Wrangler and mention how nice the contest is," he said. "I suspect there have been a few more that I don't know about."
Edmunds says: The senior class gets an open invitation to visit the showroom for a party and generous grand prize.
