Is this what your next car interior will look like?

New Mitsubishi Electric systems allow customization at a swipe

Mitsubishi Electric unveiled its latest solutions for connecting drivers to their vehicle: FLEXConnect In-Vehicle Infotainment and FLEXConnect Active Noise Contol.

The FLEXConnect IVI will operate on a three-screen interface. With swipe and touchcreen technology, users can now transfer information from the center console to the heads-up display and the cluster. Navigation, media and climate control are among the items that you will now be able to move with just one swipe to the left or the right. Driving home, we realized how valuable this technology would be, not having to look down at a phone, or to the center console for navigation.

All three displays will be controlled by one processor. The center screen will be 12.1 inches with 1,280 by 800 resolution; the cluster will be 12.3 inches with 1,920 by 720 resolution. The smaller heads-up display will be 480 by 240.

Mitsubishi Electric has also been working to reduce the noise levels inside the vehicle. The new technology will create a sound wave at the same amplitude as the interior noise, which will create interference, canceling both sounds out.

“FLEXConnect ANC provides drivers and passengers a quieter environment, enabling them to hear phone calls, music and navigation commands by minimizing outside interference,” says Mitsubishi Electric’s Doug Ray, director of sales, quality and engineering, audio, video and communications.

FLEXConnect AVI currently works only on engine and road noises, but Mitsubishi says it’s looking to eliminate excess transmission and tire noise as well.

Screens are being made now, but production for the systems will not start until 2017 or 2018.

Bentley Bentayga interior teased in new video

Bentley Bentayga interior teased in new videoChris Bruce

The Bentley Bentayga is growing ever closer to launch, and we already have a pretty good idea of what the production version looks like. Now, Bentley is giving us a surprisingly detailed tour of the super-luxurious crossover's interior in a new video.

The clip focuses on some of the plush CUV's tech and does so by actually showing it off in the cabin. We get a good view of the center console that includes a gearshift with the Brit brand's emblem on top, two cupholders and a rotary dial to switch between multiple driving modes. There are also some close-up shots of the Bentayga's instrument cluster with large, round dials for the speedometer and tachometer. Between them is a digital display that's teased here for the night vision system and later for the navigation duties. In front of the driver, a head-up display projects the nav and speed info, as well.

For now, this is a pretty good idea of what to expect from the inside of the Bentayga. The crossover will be fully revealed later this year and will go on sale in 2016 with prices for some of them even above the Mulsanne. It'll ride on a platform shared with the latest Audi Q7, but the powertrain lineup will include a W12 at launch. A diesel V8 and plug-in hybrid version will likely join the range later.Related GalleryBentley Bentayga: Almost Naked Spy Shots
