The 911 Carrera Black Edition, which is available in coupe and convertible models, is based on the standard model with a 3.4-liter flat-6 engine that produces 350 horsepower.

Standard features on the Carrera Black Edition include 20-inch 911 Turbo wheels, adaptive LED headlights and a rearview camera. A standard Bose surround-sound system rounds out the package.

The 911 Carrera Black Edition starts at $89,795, including a $995 destination charge. The all-wheel-drive 911 Carrera 4 Black Edition is priced at $95,795, including shipping.

The 911 Carrera Cabriolet Black Edition convertible starts at $99,495, including shipping, while the top-of-the-line 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet Black Edition is priced at $105,595, including shipping.

The 2016 Porsche Boxster Black Edition is powered by the same 2.7-liter 265-hp flax-6 engine as the base Boxster. Aside from the aforementioned features shared with the 911 Black Edition, it adds to the base Boxster's equipment 20-inch Carrera Classic wheels, adaptive bi-xenon headlights, dual-zone climate control and the Porsche Communication Management system with navigation and an upgraded sound system. It is priced at $60,095, including a $995 destination charge.

Key Boxster rivals include the BMW Z4 and Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class.

The Porsche 911 takes on the Audi R8 and Chevrolet Corvette. The Jaguar F-Type competes with both.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers in many vehicle segments seem to love the all-black look. These new Porsche Black Editions are sure to be a showroom draw.

Porsche confirms four-cylinder Boxster, Cayman replacement for US

Porsche confirms four-cylinder Boxster, Cayman replacement for USNoah Joseph

Those who've been anxiously awaiting the return of the four-cylinder Porsche will be glad to know that the wait is almost over. What's more, the quad-pot Porsches won't be kept away from US showrooms but will form an integral part of the company's North American strategy.

Confirmation comes courtesy of Automotive News, which spoke to the company's chief executive Matthias Müller about its return to four-cylinder power. "First of all, we will have it in the Boxster and Cayman successor," Müller told AN. "And then we will see how it works and how successful it is and how the customers will react on that, and then we will take the next decisions."

The model to which Müller refers is expected to be the 718 – a new line taking the place of the Boxster and Cayman, ostensibly allowing Zuffenhausen to start from scratch rather than "downsizing" the engine on existing models. The new range is anticipated to launch sometime in the middle of next year.

Porsche is currently offering a 2.0-liter inline-four with 234 horsepower in the Macan (which we get with V6s) for certain markets overseas, but the 718 is expected to get a new flat-four 2.0- and 2.5-liter displacements with output edging up to 395 horsepower. The last time Porsche offered a four-pot in the US was with the front-engined 968 that wrapped up production two decades ago, but it hasn't offered a boxer four since 1976.Related GalleryPorsche Boxster GTS and Cayman GTS2015 Porsche Boxster GTS2015 Porsche Boxster GTS2015 Porsche Boxster GTS2015 Porsche Boxster GTS2015 Porsche Cayman GTS2015 Porsche Cayman GTS2015 Porsche Cayman GTS2015 Porsche Cayman GTS

Porsche introduces Boxster and 911 Black Editions

Porsche introduces Boxster and 911 Black EditionsNoah Joseph

In case choosing which Porsche to buy weren't challenging enough, the German automaker has announced a new special edition to make it even more so - particularly for people who like the murdered-out look.

Called the Black Edition, it's being offered on the 911 and Boxster. As you might have guessed, the principal defining feature is the black on black color scheme, with metallic black paint available as an option. But it also comes bundled with otherwise optional equipment as standard.

Both versions come from the factory with heated seats and auto-dimming mirrors as well as embossed headrests, unique sill plates and a Sport Design steering wheel. The 911 version also includes 20-inch wheels, dynamic LED headlights, front and rear Park Assist, reversing camera and Bose audio. It's based on the standard 3.4-liter model with 350 horsepower and is available in rear- or all-wheel drive and in coupe or carbio form.

The Boxster Black Edition likewise starts out with the base 2.7-liter, 265-hp model, and upgrades with its own set of 20-inch wheels, wind deflector, bi-xenon headlights, dual-zone climate control, navigation, upgraded audio and park assist.

Porsche dealers in the US are now taking orders on the Black Editions, with deliveries set to commence at the end of July. Pricing range from $59,100 for the Boxster and $88,800 for the 911 Carrera, ratcheting all the way up to $104,600 for the 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet (all prices excluding the $995 destination charge).

In elegant black: Porsche 911 Carrera and Boxster Black Editions

Atlanta. Porsche has created a special model of the 911 Carrera and Boxster: the Black Edition. The combination of black exterior and interior emphasizes the timeless, classy elegance of each sports car. As the name indicates, Black paint is standard, while Jet Black Metallic is available as an option. Standard equipment on the 911 Carrera and Boxster Black Edition models has been enhanced in regards to the wheels, headlights, and sound system while additional equipment has been included such as the Sport Design steering wheel, door sill guards with Black Edition logo, heated seats, auto dimming rear-view mirrors, and the headrests are embossed with the Porsche Crest.

The 911 Carrera Black Edition is based on the standard model with a 3.4 liter flat-six engine developing 350 hp. It is offered in coupé and convertible versions with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. Standard features on the Black Edition include 20-inch 911 Turbo wheels, LED headlights with the Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS+), as well as Park Assist at the front and rear with a reversing camera. The Porsche Communication Management system with navigation, the upgraded Sound Package Plus audio system and Park Assist for front and rear are also included as standard features on the Boxster Black Edition.

The return of the Alpine brand to European showrooms might be inching closer to actually happening. A partnership with Caterham was supposed to bring the world a revival by the end of 2015, but that deal fell through last year. Development hasn't stopped though, and this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans in June could be the possible location for a new concept to debut.

According to Automotive News Europe, the rumor about the concept first appeared in the French magazine Challenges. It also suggested a future production version with 250 horsepower and priced at 30,000 to 35,000 euros ($34,000 to $40,000) to take on the Audi TT and Porsche Boxster.

Alpine owner Renault already confirmed the development of the new model, but only a few details have leaked out so far. The lightweight, two-seat sports car is reportedly called the AS1, and like the brand's historic vehicles, it might feature a rear-mounted engine. According to an unnamed insider speaking to Automotive News Europe, engineers are also taking advantage of technologies from Nissan and Daimler. The production version is rumored to go on sale in 2017.

Even if this latest attempt to revive Alpine falls through to, it should bring the world a beautiful concept. Just look at the fabulous A110-50 concept (pictured above) from 2012 as a perfect example.Featured GalleryRenault Alpine A110-50 Concept: Shanghai 2013
