PRYOR, Oklahoma — Roberts Auto Group understands that safety is a consideration when car shopping, so it's also offering safety on the home front by giving away a tornado shelter with every new car purchase through June.

Roberts Auto, which sells Ford, Lincoln, Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram, is in the heart of the country known as Tornado Alley.

  "Right now it's storm season and it's something everyone in this part of the country needs, but doesn't think about until the storm is on top of them," General Manager Seth Knighton told Edmunds.

Knighton came up with the sale promotion after watching competitors offer money off of a purchase.

"I figured why not give them something with their savings?" he said.

He also was motivated by working at a dealership in Joplin, Missouri, when a tornado destroyed a major section of town in the 2011. Employees there had assisted storm victims by using the dealership as a supply center.

"This is a rural community and there is a lot of need for storm shelters, so this meets the need and hopefully sells cars in the process," Knighton said.

Edmunds says: A dealership builds tight community bonds by offering shelter from the storm. Seems like a win-win.
